FALLS CITY COUNCIL

The top two administrators in the Department of
Public Works were given pay raises last night by
the Niagara Falls City Council. Director Dave Kinney
will get a $4,000 a year raise to $67,000. His deputy
John Caso was granted a $2,000 increase bringing his
compensation to $57,800 a year. The pay raises were
part of a reorganization plan for the department
approved by the Council. Councilmember Bob Anderson
voted no. The Council also gave their Secretary Geri
Mondi a $3,000 a year raise. In other action, lawmakers
agreed to join the New York Power Authority's Green
Fleets program. It's designed to replace internal
combustion vehicles with ones operated by electricity.
The agreement comes with an opportunity to buy a
$123,000 electric zamboni for the Hyde Park Ice
Rink. The council ok'd it's purchase and NYPA will
eventually re-imburse the City for it's cost. DPW
Director Kinney also told the Council he's having
problems with residents on Pine Avenue putting their
household trash next to the trash bins on the street
rather than in the alleys behind the buildings. He said
Modern will only pick up the trash in the alleys and
not along the street.

STOVE FIRE FORCES 98 YEAR OLD OUT OF HER HOUSE

A stove fire in Hartland around 7pm last night
forced a 98 year old woman to spend the night
with her grandson. Clara Duchow of Quaker
Road told Sheriff''s Deputies she started the
stove and heard it backfire. A few minutes later
she found some items next to the stove on fire and
quickly took them outside and put them out. She
then called the Hartland Fire Department. They
found some melted wires near the unit and called
the Building Inspector. He pronounced the home
as unlivable due to some code violations.

CERETTO

Lewiston Republican John Ceretto announced
Monday he will run against State Assemblywoman
Francine del Monte this Fall. Ceretto saying the
Democrat should not be given a sixth term because
of her support for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
Ceretto's into his third term now on the County
Legilsature. He had previously served on the Town
Board.

LEIKER WINS

The County Board of Elections Monday upheld
last week's election of Democrat Bernard Leiker
to the Wilson Village Board. Leiker's victory
last Tuesday had been challenged by Republican
Keith Douglas. The recount showed that Leiker
beat him by 16 votes. Leiker is 61 and is a
retired teacher. The seat became empty when
Milton Clark decided to retire.

MOLSON CANAL CONCERT SERIES

A website over the weekend leaked the names
of three of the performers for this year's Molson
Canal Concert Series. Pollstar.com says the
Pittsburgh jam band, Rusted Root, will open
the series again this year on June 25. Gretchen
Wilson will perform July 9. The former
lead singer of the Canadian hard rock
band Triumph, Rik Emmett, has been signed for
July 30.

TRUCK PARADE

Heinrich Chevrolet is aiming to break a
Guinness world record Sunday by putting
together the largest parade of trucks ever
assembled. The South Transit Road
dealership will donate the proceeds from
The World's Largest Chevy Truck Parade"
to Niagara Hospice. The event will take
place at noon Sunday at Outwater Park
on Corinthia Street. The route will go
east on Corinthia, then south on North
Transit. Live music, a truck pull contest,
a basket raffle and a 50-50 split will be held
afterwards. They need to get 250 trucks to
break the record. The entry fee is $10 per

ILLEGAL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM

Two people were charged with unlawfully discharging
a firearm around 3:30pm Saturday near 3582 Quaker
Road in Gasport. Thirty-two year old Brian Hillman of
Macedon, New York...and 25 Sean Hillman of 212
Catrine Street in Medina were issued appearance
tickets for Town Court. Sheriff's deputies had
held them at gunpoint after they ignored verbal
commands over a loud speaker. They
said they did not hear them because they were wearing
hearing protection devices. The men said they
were target shooting with clay pigeons. A nearby
neighbor claimed they were shooting too close to his
house.

TOWN OF LOCKPORT CAR VANDALIZED

A 40 year old Town of Lockport man says the
windshield on his car was smashed overnight
Saturday while it was parked in his driveway.
The Northview Drive resident says a $1,000
laptop was taken from the vehicle along with
a $399 ipod Touch, and a $200 cell phone.
The radio and rearview mirror were also damaged.
The victim said it happened sometime after
midnight. He said another vehicle belonging
to a friend of his son was also egged overnight.

MISSING RING

A 51 year old Wheatfield woman reported
Sunday that a $2,200 14 karat gold diamond
ring was taken from her home March 7. The
victim suspects a 20 year old female relative took
it and said she waited to report it was missing
in the hopes it would be returned. The family
member denied taking it, but the victim says
the woman was the only one in the house besides
the immediate family when it was taken.

POT IN DORM ROOM

A 19 year old Lockport man was arrested at NCCC
around 11pm last night after a security guard found
marijuana in a room at the college dormitory. David
Kraus of 37 Allen Street allegedly entered the
building with three other non residents. The
security guard saw them enter and knocked on the
room door but no one would answer. He used a
security key to get inside and smelled marijuana.
Kraus told them it belonged to him. He was issued an
appearance ticket for Town Court on April 6.
