RED CROSS

The former executive director of the Eastern Niagara chapter of the Red Cross
will lead the new county wide agency that became a reality Friday when the
three local chapters operating in the county merged into one. Maureen Siekierski
said the decision to consolidate came when the executive director resigned in the
Falls ater leading operations there for 20 years. The Lockport and Falls locations
will stay open and the new board is expected to meet Tuesday night at a local
winery in Cambria.

CENTER COURT

The County Health Department wants construction halted on the Hope Six
project in the Falls while environmental concerns are addressed. The director
of the departments environmental division, Jim Devald, says incinerator ash
was found among waste materials in several areas. The problems were first
discovered several weeks ago during their review of the project. They want a
meeting within a week with Norstar Development USA, the State health department,
and the D-E-C. Devald said they want a soil management plan and some further
testing done. He said there is nothing that can't be addressed.

DUCKETT

A federal judge in Florida refused this week to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a
Lockport couple that claims CNN's Nancy Grace pushed their daughter
to take her own life. Larry and Beth Eubank of Lockport contend that
their daughter, 21 year old Melinda Duckett, committed suicide after
Grace grilled her about the disappearance of her son Trenton in August
2006. Duckett took her life before the interview aired and the couple
says the network's decision to run it anyway caused emotional distress
and media and public harassment. They want a jury trial and punitive damages.

HOUSE FIRE

Lockport firefighters this morning quickly extenguished a blaze in a home at 16 Highland
Avenue. The fire was reported around 6:20 am after a neighbor knocked on the door
and told the family of four their house was on fire. Captain Lou Ferrina said it appeared
to have started in the attic. He had no estimate of damage. Four people and a dog got
out safely.

LOCKPORT IN=-REM AUCTION

Most of the property sold at Thursday night's in-rem auction at City Hall stayed
in local hands. 29 of the 30 parcels up for sale were sold and all but 7 went to
bidders from Niagara and Erie counties. Michael Campbell of Lockport bought
95 Niagara Street for $26-thousand. The 5 unit apartment house is said to need
quite a bit of work.

LOCKPORT BURGLARIES

Lockport Police are investigating several car burglaries that happened overnight
Wednesday. Items were taken from unlocked cars parked on Prospect and North
Transit overnight. The items included a C-B radio and power cord taken from one pick-up on
Propsect while another victim on the same street said $12 in cash and $48 in change were
missing from his vehicle. A $300 stereo was removed from an unlocked pick-up on
North Transit. Police brought in a k-9 unit but was unsuccessful in tracking those
responsible.

LOVE CANAL

Lois Gibbs returned to Love Canal Friday to commerate the 30th anniversary of the
state declaring it a disaster area. She blasted the State Health Departments latest
study on former residents calling it the "final whitewash." She says the department has
drastically underestimated the impact of the toxic levels in the area on former residents,
their kids, and their children's children. She insisted the state needed to inform every
former resident and their children about the health consequences of having been exposed
to the toxic landfill.

NO DEMOCRAT

No Democrat will appear on the general election ballot in the 142nd Assembly District
in November. A judge ruling that Dennis Cehulik has not been a legal resident of the
state for 5 years as required by the State constitution. Judge Joseph Teresi disqualified
Cehulik for not meeting the residency requirement,. He was competing for the seat currently occupied by Mike Cole. The judge tossed out his petitions on both the Democratic and
Conservative lines.

NO DEMOCRAT

FALLS TRAIN STATION

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and Senator Chuck Schumer saying Thursday $3.4-million
in federal funding has finally been released for the construction of a new train station in the
Falls. Slaughter secured $4.7-million in 2005 and Schumer $2.5-million in 2004 but about
$4.6-million had been held up due to bureautric red tape. The remaining $1.2-million will
be made available to the city next year. Slaughter says the money would have been lost
if it was not allocated to the city by September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.

BURT WOMAN HURT

A 21 year old woman from Burt is at ECMC following a one car accident around 6:30 Thursday
morning in Hartland. Christine Lopez was going south on Hosmer Road when she lost control
and went into a ditch. She was ejected from the vehicle and found by Sheriff's deputies.
They say she suffered a head injury but was conscious when taken to the hospital by Mercy
Flight.
