The diocese of Buffalo confirmed
yesterday that the former Holy Trinity
Church was sold June 24 to a non
profit group called Niagara Heritage of
Hope & Service. The diocese closed
the parish on Easter 2008 as part of it's
Journey In Faith And Grace. The sale
includes the historic church, as well
as the rectory, convent, and school
buildings. The price was not disclosed
but the proceeds will go to Divine
Mercy Parish....which was formed
when the congregations of Holy
Trinity, Saint Stan's, Saint George's,
Our Lady of the Rosary, and Our
Lady of Lebanon merged. The website
of Niagara Heritage and Hope and
Service says they are seeking to make
a positive difference in the local and
visiting community by providing
educational services, professional
support, social opportunities, and
spiritual support and instruction.

A 24 OUNCE BOTTLE OF BUD
Lockport police chased three men down State
Road, through a backyard and onto High Street
around 12:30 this morning in connection with the
theft of a 24 ounce bottle of Budweiser from the
Wilson Farms store on South Transit. Two of
them got away but 17 year old Zachary Smith of
42 Ashley Place was caught and brought back
to the store. An employee said he was in the
store with a black male who took the beer....
but Smith did not take anything....so police
charged him with obstructing governmental
administration.

MIDDLEPORT BOY DOING BETTER
The condition of an 11 year old Middleport boy
who was hit by a car while riding his bike Tuesday
has been upgraded from critical to stable. The
youngster was hit at Cottage and Chestnut
Ridge Roads when he rode his bike into the
path of a car driven by a 19 year old Gasport
woman. Deputies say she was unable to avoid
hitting the boy and will not be charged.

SCREAMING
Thirty-one year old John Cuilo of 36 Spruce in
Lockport was charged with criminal trespass
after he allegedly showed up at a home on
Harvey Avenue around 2am and started
screaming on the front lawn. The resident
told police Cuilo wanted to see his girlfriend
who wasn't there. Cuilo refused to leave
and threatened to smash up the caller's
property. He was arrested at the corner of
High and Harvey.

A sign on Ide Road welcoming people to the Town
of Wilson was apparently damaged by an axe
sometime yesterday. A town worker discovered the
damage around 7 last night. Brad Clark told deputies
it appeared to have marks in it from an axe and the
bottom half had been broken off. Deputies found the
head to an axe pick in the ditch below the sign. Clark
said there have been ongoing problems with Wilson
signs being damaged, he estimated the value of
the sign to be $1600.

LOCUST STREET FIRE
Yesterday morning's fire in Lockport that
was centered around Macaluso's Shoe
Repair did an estimated$150,000 in damage.
Firefighters continued to throw water on
the remains of his store, and the adjoining
Locust Street Hobby Shop till early
afternoon. It was torn down later in the
day. The cause is still under investigation.
Owner Vincent Macaluso watched as the
building was being demolished. He said as
many as 50 people came by to express their
sympathies. He was able to save an antique
cash register and the handpainted sign made
by his Father. Macaluso is 62 and said
he's not sure yet if he's ready to retire. The
fire was spotted by police on patrol at 1:20am
and also reported by a resident of the rear
apartment. There were no injuries.

In Albany, Senate Democrats passed 125 bills
yesterday after they counted a Republican...
who had wandered into the Chamber looking
for a can of Coke...as being present. It gave them
a quorum and the Governor, who was holding a
press conference at the time, said witnesses saw
Senator Frank Padavan in the Chamber at a time
when his vote could be counted for non controversial
legilsation. He said if a Senator comes in the Chamber,
even if he or she leaves, their vote can be tabulated.
But within a few minutes, he said the Republican
conference said Padavan never signed in and
his 32nd vote would not be valid. Patersonn then
ordered the two sides back for another try last night
but nothing passed. A spokesman for the Governor
said last night he would not sign the bills passed earlier
in the day..even though there was speculation by
many that he would. Peter Kaufmann said the bills
would automatically become law in ten days if they
are sent to Paterson's office and he does nothing.

ELEVEN YEAR OLD STRUCK ON BIKE
An 11 year old boy is in critical condition at ECMC
after he was struck by a car while riding his
bicycle around 3pm yesterday at Chestnut
Ridge and Cottage Roads in Royalton. State
Police say the car was operated by 19 year
old Karita Cumberland of Gasport. She
was not hurt. The boys name was not released.
The investigation is ongoing and no tickets were
issued.

yesterday a foul up with EZ Pass on Grand
Island led to the issuance of more than
2400 tickets to holders who were accused
of speeding through toll boothes. The foul
up happened between April 27 and last
Monday. They're sending out letters of
apology. A similiar screw-up occurred
earlier this year at the Dunkirk-Fredonia
State Thruway exit.

February told Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrezza
yesterday he was quitting the case. Derek
Akiwumi said 34 year old Adam Hamilton needs
a psychiatric defenseand Hamilton doesn't have
the money to pay for it. The County's Public
Defenders office took over the case. If they
decide Hamilton needs a psychiatric expert,
the taxpayers will pay for it.
